Even though Todd and Julie Chrisley are now free, the toll of their prison time is still very real. On the latest episode of the Chrisley Confessions podcast released Wednesday, July 30, Julie opened up about lingering health issues caused by the conditions at FMC Lexington Prison in Kentucky. The 52-year-old Chrisley Knows Best star served 28 months behind bars after being convicted of financial crimes, including fraud and tax evasion.
“I have a lung condition from being in prison,” Julie shared during the podcast, which she co-hosts with her husband Todd.
According to reports, her condition stems from inhaling asbestos, a dangerous, cancer-causing mineral known to be linked to serious illnesses such as lung cancer and mesothelioma.
Julie admitted that some listeners may have already picked up on her struggles just by the way she sounds during recent podcast episodes.
“You will probably notice me at certain times, trying to get a breath,” she explained.
Todd added that Julie will need to see a pulmonologist for an official diagnosis and to figure out the next steps for treatment. He stressed that they’re taking the issue very seriously.
“That’s something we’re going to have to address right now,” Todd said.
Following Julie’s claims, the Federal Bureau of Prisons issued a statement insisting that they prioritize the safety and well-being of everyone in their care.
“We take seriously our duty to protect the individuals entrusted in our custody,” the statement read. “As well as maintaining the safety of our employees and the community. Humane treatment of men and women is our top priority.”
