Metro Boomin has dropped a star-packed new mixtape, A Futuristic Summa, that revives the iconic Atlanta rap sound — and you can listen to it now.
Presented by DJ Spinz, the project sees Metro linking up with Atlanta rap legends from multiple eras, delivering a nostalgic sound that stands apart from the production style he’s become famous for.
The beats are loaded with skittering hi-hats, ringtone-style MIDI loops, and playful samples — the exact kind of energy that helped put Atlanta on the hip-hop map over 20 years ago.
The tape’s guest list, which isn’t credited on streaming platforms, is stacked even by Metro’s standards. Alongside his usual collaborators like Future, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Lil Baby, and Quavo, the mixtape also features Atlanta rap pioneers.
Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame, Young Dro, Yung LA, Roscoe Dash, 2 Chainz, T.I., J Money, Skooly, Shad Da God, and Travis Porter all make appearances across the 24-track tape — with several of them popping up more than once.
Staying true to the throwback Atlanta vibe, Metro Boomin marked the release of A Futuristic Summa by posting an old webcam photo of himself on Instagram.
Leading up to the drop, he teased some of the mixtape’s features with a clever series of posts inspired by the classic “Who’s That Pokémon?” challenge, adding to the nostalgic energy surrounding the project.
A Futuristic Summa marks Metro Boomin’s first release since last year’s pair of collaborative albums with Future, We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You.
Both projects made a huge cultural impact, most notably igniting the Kendrick Lamar and Drake feud with the track “Like That,” which shook up the hierarchy of hip-hop. Metro hasn’t worked with Drake since, and it’s still uncertain if the two will ever hit the studio together again.
