Soulja Boy was arrested in Los Angeles after police allegedly discovered a gun during a traffic stop.
According to NBC Los Angeles, the rapper—born DeAndre Cortez Way—was a passenger in a car pulled over by police at around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 3. Officers reportedly spotted a firearm inside the vehicle, leading to Soulja Boy’s arrest on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Further details about the traffic stop or other individuals involved have not yet been released.
This marks the latest in a string of legal issues for Soulja Boy in 2025. Back in April, he was ordered to pay $4.25 million to a former personal assistant who accused him of sexual battery and assault in 2021. He was also hit with an additional $250,000 in punitive damages.
Following the verdict, Soulja Boy expressed his frustration with the outcome.
“Today, I stand before you, deeply disappointed in the verdict delivered in my case,” he said at the time. “I firmly believe that the decision made in court was not based on facts or substantial evidence but rather on factors that were outside of my control.”
He went on to say, “The truth was overshadowed by the involvement of individuals such as the jury who are not present during the events in question, and I feel that the system allows external influences to shape the outcome.”
Soulja Boy also claimed the trial was an “unequal playing field,” pointing out that his accuser was able to remain anonymous as Jane Doe while he endured “public scrutiny.” He called the trial process “tainted” and not designed to protect the rights of the accused.
“I want to make it clear that I’m innocent,” he added, vowing to appeal the decision and “fight for the truth to be revealed.”
