Selena Gomez has revealed the one song that could convince her to hit the road again after nearly a decade away from touring.
Chatting with Jake Shane on his show Therapuss, the Only Murders in the Building star said the track that could lure her back is “Who Says,” the lead single from When the Sun Goes Down — the final album she released with Selena Gomez & the Scene.
“It’s the most powerful moment when I get to perform it,” Gomez shared. “That’s honestly the only reason I would ever do a tour again, to perform ‘Who Says.'”
Selena Gomez admitted that if she were to re-record “Who Says” today, she’d have to “take it down an octave from each year I’ve sung it,” adding, “I need to redo it. I should recut it.”
The singer and actress shared that she recently heard the song while traveling abroad — though she didn’t reveal where — and found herself unexpectedly emotional. “I teared up. I was like, ‘Why the f*** am I tearing up to my own song?’ But it was because it was the little me who was there saying these really powerful messages that I still need to hear.”
Gomez has previously opened up about why she stepped back from live performing. In a Variety Actors on Actors conversation with Saoirse Ronan, she explained, “I’ll always have music in my life because my partner’s a musician, and I love having moments to do it for fun. It can be a little vulnerable when you’re putting yourself out there versus escaping into a character.”
Selena Gomez & the Scene released three studio albums between 2009 and 2012 before she launched her solo career. She went on to drop Stars Dance (2013), Revival (2015), and Rare (2020). Her latest release is a collaboration with her fiancé Benny Blanco titled I Said I Love You First.
