Raekwon Credits Busta Rhymes With ‘Saving My Life’ in Emotional Speech

Raekwon showed major love to Busta Rhymes in a heartfelt tribute to New York City.

In a clip shared by Art of Dialogue on Sunday (August 10), the two rappers were spotted enjoying a night out at an NYC club when Raekwon the Chef grabbed the mic to honor Busta. Earlier this month, the “Touch It” hitmaker had been awarded his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“Thank you for saving my life. You saved my life, n***a, you was in it first,” the Wu-Tang Clan legend told an emotional Busta.

After praising their hometown as “number one,” Raekwon spoke about how “proud” he is of his longtime friend.

“Busta, I wanna thank you for everything. For the privilege to be here with you and share these moments, my n***a,” he said. “We’re grown men. We’re grown men, we do grown things. I’m so proud of you, man… You deserve it, you live it. New York City, Hall of Fame.”

He wrapped up the emotional moment by calling himself a “student of the game” before dapping up his “Goldmine” collaborator.

Raekwon and Busta’s history runs deep—Busta’s group Leaders of the New School debuted years before Wu-Tang’s first album, and he’s been an outspoken fan of Rae’s 1995 solo classic Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…, even serving as co-executive producer for its 2009 sequel.

Although Rae wasn’t present for Busta’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on August 1, the event drew fellow New York icons LL Cool J, Chuck D, Chris Rock, and Big Daddy Kane.

“I worked so hard and I never asked for a shortcut, I never asked for a cheat code,” Busta said during his acceptance speech.
