Denzel Washington didn’t mince words when sharing his thoughts on Jerry Jones’ leadership of the Dallas Cowboys.
On Tuesday, the Oscar-winning actor — a devoted Cowboys fan since the 1960s — appeared on ESPN’s First Take and openly criticized Jones’ recent management of the team. Washington admitted that Jones is “making it hard” for him to keep supporting them.
“I don’t like what [Jones] is doing […] I respect the owner, but I don’t like what it’s doing to the fans. He ain’t thinkin’ about us. He’s thinking about his pockets,” Washington said. “There’s box office and there’s Oscars. Jerry, been a while, huh? You ain’t been to the show, you wouldn’t know. Haven’t been to the show, so you wouldn’t know what it is to win.”
Explaining why he called Jones out on live TV, Washington added, “I love the Cowboys. I love the Cowboys because I really love them. This is why I feel the way I feel […] All money ain’t good money, Jerry.”
Washington’s comments came after First Take host Stephen A. Smith asked for his take on the ongoing contract drama between Dallas and NFL All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons — a standoff now casting doubt on the star’s future with the team.
Adding to the frustration, the Cowboys have only claimed three Super Bowl titles under Jones’ ownership and haven’t won one — or even appeared in the NFC Championship Game — since 1995.
