In a sit-down with Anthony Mason for CBS Mornings, Kid Cudi opened up about his decision to testify in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sex trafficking and racketeering trial — a move he admits he never wanted to make.
When Mason asked how difficult it was, given Cudi’s claim that Diddy blew up his car over his relationship with Cassie, the rapper replied, “It was really hard. I didn’t want to do it. I got subpoenaed. … I just wanted to be there for [Cassie] and help her out.”
Cudi said it felt “weird” seeing Diddy in court for the first time in years, recalling that they made eye contact a few times. “I know I did the right thing, so that’s all that matters,” he added.
His testimony was one of the trial’s major talking points, with others also accusing the Bad Boy Records founder of making violent threats against him. Former employee Capricorn Clark alleged that Diddy once broke into Cudi’s home after learning he was dating Cassie and threatened to kill him.
Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Cudi admitted he “hated every minute” of the experience. Initially, he told prosecutors he wouldn’t testify — until a subpoena left him no choice. “I was like, ‘Fuck! Shit! No!’” he recalled.
As for court attire, Cudi kept it casual. “Do I have to be like in a fucking suit or something? … Fuck this shit. … I’m wearing some Salomons, my Levi’s, and my leather jacket, and that’s it.”
Cudi shared that he found “peace” in showing up for his ex-girlfriend, knowing the abuse she endured from Diddy.
“Cassie is my friend. I love her, and I want to see her do well,” he said. “When I saw her get married, I was so happy for her that she found someone, her person. When I saw that she was having kids, I was like, ‘Oh this is so awesome.’ I’ve always just wanted to see her thrive and do well and be happy, because I know she was living a nightmare. I was there to support her.”
