Leonardo DiCaprio, famously known for dating women in their 20s, says he still feels like he’s in his 30s — even though he turned 50 last November.
The Oscar-winning actor, who stars in the upcoming action drama One Battle After Another, graces the August cover of Esquire and was interviewed by director Paul Thomas Anderson for the feature.
When Anderson asked if hitting 50 felt like a “natural time for reflection,” DiCaprio shot back, “‘You turned emotionally 35 last year.’”
Anderson then teased, “‘Your age is 50, but your emotional maturity is 32.’ How does that feel?”
DiCaprio responded that aging has given him “a desire to just be more honest and not waste your time.”
“I can only imagine how the next few decades are going to progress,” he added. “I look at my mother, for example, and she just says exactly what she thinks and wastes no time. She spends no time trying to fake it.”
The actor shared that, both in his career and personal life, he’s become more comfortable “being more upfront” and “risking having things fall apart” rather than staying quiet and letting relationships drift apart.
“You have to just be much more upfront. It’s almost a responsibility because much more of your life is behind you than it is ahead of you,” he said.
DiCaprio, once part of the infamous 1990s teen clique known as the Pussy Posse, has long brushed off jokes and speculation about his dating younger women. A running gag claims he breaks things off before his girlfriends turn 25. He dated Camila Morrone, now 28, from 2018 to 2022.
Last year, a source close to the star told the Daily Mail he’s “not keen on the hype suggesting that he is seeking out these very young women” and wants to move past the narrative.
“He wants to ditch this image once and for all, and he is really bothered that this continues to follow him,” the source said. “Leo wants something like he had with Camila, something real.”
