Wendy Williams has spoken out publicly for the first time in a while, offering a health update just a week after a court ruling upheld her guardianship.
According to Page Six, the former talk show host was spotted arriving at a New York restaurant when reporters asked her about the decision. Instead of addressing the ruling directly, Wendy pivoted to her legal team’s reaction.
“My attorneys are highly upset,” she said, before adding, “I want to say hi to my attorneys, Allan Diamond and Joe Tacopina… I will get out of guardianship.”
Williams was first placed under guardianship in 2022 after a New York judge intervened following Wells Fargo’s claim of suspicious activity in her bank accounts. The bank argued the freeze was meant to protect her.
Her health has been in the spotlight since she stepped away from The Wendy Williams Show in 2020 due to complications from Graves’ disease and other medical struggles. The 2024 Lifetime documentary Where Is Wendy Williams shed further light on her condition, citing memory loss, erratic behavior, and reported alcohol misuse.
On August 12, PEOPLE confirmed her most recent round of testing — which included extensive medical and neuropsychological evaluations and brain scans — upheld an earlier diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and aphasia, first identified in 2023. Wendy had been living in an assisted care facility for two years before leaving this past March.
Her ongoing battle will be further explored in the upcoming ID Channel documentary Trapped: What is Happening to Wendy Williams, which dives into the #FreeWendy movement and the push by fans and loved ones to end her guardianship.
The documentary is now available for streaming on Max.
