‘Black Panther’ Actress Letitia Wright Honors Chadwick Boseman on Fifth Anniversary of His Passing

Nearly five years have passed since Chadwick Boseman’s death, and the pain still weighs heavy on his Black Panther co-star Letitia Wright.

On August 25, Wright honored him on her Instagram Stories by sharing throwback photos of Boseman from his Howard University days, along with a serene sunset image.

“This week. every year since 2020. is a tough one,” she wrote. “But always a time of reflection, taking time to appreciate the soul of my brother.”

Wright, who portrays Shuri—the younger sister to Boseman’s King T’Challa in the Black Panther films—continues to keep his memory close.

Chadwick Boseman passed away on August 28, 2020, following a private four-year battle with colon cancer—a loss that stunned the world and even many of his colleagues who had no idea of his illness.

His family’s heartbreaking statement at the time read: “It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman.⁣ Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV.”

They continued: “A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.”

Boseman died at home surrounded by his wife and family at just 43 years old.

His passing was later reflected in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where King T’Challa’s death from an unnamed illness set the emotional foundation for the film’s story.
