Boosie Badazz has officially pleaded guilty to a federal charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm—a case he once believed was behind him.
The 42-year-old rapper appeared in court on Tuesday (August 26) and is set to be sentenced on November 21. Under the plea deal, prosecutors are recommending a 24-month prison sentence, though the judge will have the final say. The charge carries a maximum of 15 years.
The case dates back to May 2023, when Boosie was seen flashing a gun on Instagram while in San Diego. Police later tracked the vehicle he was riding in with a helicopter, pulled it over, and found two firearms inside.
At first, he faced state charges and was prepared to plead guilty in exchange for probation. But before that could happen, the case was dismissed and federal prosecutors picked it up instead. Things took another turn when an appeals court ruled it unconstitutional to stop nonviolent drug felons from owning firearms. Boosie thought he was in the clear, even leaving court in tears, saying, “This situation made me see who was down with me and who wasn’t. Ninety percent of people thought I was going to prison, but God had a different plan.”
However, prosecutors re-filed the case after a larger panel overturned that ruling, and Boosie eventually chose to take a plea. Earlier this month, he wrote on X: “JUST ACCEPTED A PLEA FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ON MY GUN CASE. I THOUGHT THIS CASE WAS OVER N I WAS GOING TO GET ON WITH MY LIFE BUT ‘GOD DONT MAKE MISTAKES’ N IM TIRED OF FIGHTING. TALKED TO MY FAMILY N THIS IS THE RIGHT DECISION. TO ALL MY FANS ACROSS THE WORLD SAY A PRAYER FOR YA BOY N GO GET THE NEW ALBUM #wordsofarealone.”
While Boosie’s camp is bracing for sentencing, internet personality Charleston White wasted no time celebrating the development on Instagram Live, saying, “Boosie really thought he wasn’t going to jail for that pistol. I knew he was going. I couldn’t wait to celebrate.”
