‘Top Boy’ Actor Micheal Ward Released on Bail in Rape and Sexual Assault Case

Micheal Ward has been granted bail after appearing in court for his rape and sexual assault case.

According to Deadline, the Top Boy star appeared at a London courthouse on Thursday, where he confirmed his name, address, and date of birth. He was not required to enter a plea at this stage.

Back in July, reports revealed that Ward had been charged by London’s Metropolitan Police with two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault involving one woman in January 2023. The woman’s identity has not been disclosed.

Detective Superintendent Scott Ware, who is leading the case, said at the time, “Our specialist officers continue to support the woman who has come forward—we know investigations of this nature can have significant impact on those who make reports.”

Following the charges, the 27-year-old was dropped by his UK agency, Olivia Bell Management, though he still appears to be represented by his U.S. agency, CAA.

Ward denied the allegations in a July statement, saying, “I recognize that proceedings are now ongoing, and I have full faith that they will lead to my name being cleared. Given those proceedings, I am unable to comment further.”

Ward first rose to fame in 2019 as Jamie in the hit British series Top Boy. His performance earned him the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2020, along with a TV BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Small Axe: Lovers Rock.

Most recently, Ward appeared in Ari Aster’s COVID-19 satire Eddington, starring alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, and Emma Stone. The film premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
