BigXthaPlug Opens Up About Arrest: ‘Y’all Just Wanted to Lock Me Up’

BigXthaPlug recently opened up about his arrest in Dallas, which happened on the same day he dropped his new album I Hope You’re Happy.

On a Twitch stream, later shared to his TikTok, the rapper recalled being told that police had him listed as a gang member. “So, it’s either going to go two ways,” he said. “We can either take you straight to jail right now, or you can come with us to the headquarters, [and] we can ask you a couple of questions, and we’ll let you go. We just need to see if you’re a gang member or not. I said, ‘Okay, bet.’”

He was arrested on charges of marijuana possession and unlawful firearm possession, spending a night in Dallas County jail.

“I go down to the headquarters. We’re choppin’ it up. They talk to me for like four hours. And they didn’t do nothing but play my music,” he explained. “They played ‘Safehouse.’ As soon as the beat started… I said, ‘Bruh, like y’all wanted to take me to jail ‘cause, like, what the fuck? Everything y’all have asked from me, I’ve had something for it, so what the fuck? Y’all just tryna take me to jail.’”

Frustrated with the process, BigXthaPlug said the investigator barely acknowledged him. “I’m like, ‘Man, turn that shit off… Y’all might as well go ahead and take me to jail,’” he recalled. He was released the next day on a $5,000 bond.

According to CBS News, BigXthaPlug’s attorney Valerie Baston confirmed that his legal team is determined to keep the two charges classified as misdemeanors and not felonies.

“We’re going to wait to see the affidavit,” Baston said. “But, we’re going to work vigorously for our client because it just is what it is. It’s two misdemeanors, and people are trying to make it a felony.”

The arrest happened the same day the 26-year-old dropped his new album I Hope You’re Happy. He was supposed to attend his release party later that evening. The project leans more country-inspired, featuring collaborations with Jelly Roll, Shaboozey, and Luke Combs, among others.
