Looks like there’s no drama between Latto and Ice Spice. The duo just dropped their joint track “Gyatt” on streaming platforms Wednesday, September 3. Both rappers also hopped on social media to announce that the official music video is set to drop Thursday.
So what was behind the rumored Ice Spice and Latto tension?
It all traces back to 2022, when Latto and Nicki Minaj clashed online after Nicki questioned why her hit “Super Freaky Girl” wasn’t eligible for hip-hop Grammy categories while Latto’s “Big Energy” was.
Fast forward a year, Ice Spice blows up, teams up with Nicki, and gets dubbed the “Princess of Rap.” Meanwhile, Latto scores a big collab with Cardi B — Nicki’s longtime rival — on “Put It on Da Floor.”
From there, it seemed like loyalty lines were drawn. In 2023, Latto appeared to fire shots at Ice on Offset’s track “Fine As Can Be,” spitting, “That n***a a munch/Yo’ bookin’ fee, ate it for lunch,” seemingly nodding to Ice Spice’s breakout hit “Munch (Feelin’ U).”
At the start of 2024, Ice Spice fired back with “Think U The Shit (Fart),” rapping, “Got my foot on they necks, I can’t let up/She all on the floor, told her get up,” which fans linked to Latto and Cardi’s joint track.
By August 2024, Latto briefly addressed Ice in a Billboard interview, saying if she ever did a rap battle, she’d want someone she could go “tit for tat” with. She added, “I really don’t mean it as shade. Would she even want to do that? I feel like she’s doing her in her lane. It’s two different types of vibes.”
Now, with “Gyatt” out everywhere — Spotify, Apple Music, and more — the two seem to have put the speculation to rest.
