Halle Berry is determined to secure better treatment for women going through menopause — and she’s not backing down until it happens.
The 59-year-old actor and Respin founder has been a longtime advocate for menopause awareness, drawing from her own experiences with symptoms to shape her wellness brand.
With The Menopause Care Equity Act (AB 432) now on the table in California, Berry took to X on Friday (September 5) to post a video urging her one million followers to sign a letter of support. The bill, which will be sent to Governor Gavin Newsom, would require doctors to provide proper menopause care and mandate insurance coverage for the evaluation and treatment of symptoms.
“Hello, everybody, okay, I just got some news that I have to share with you,” Berry said in the clip. “I just got word that Governor Newsom’s office is right now pushing back on a part of our menopause bill that is crucial. It’s the part that says that insurance companies must pay for women’s HRT.”
Berry stressed that this section of the bill is “the most important part” and “a huge part of what this bill is all about.”
“Not every woman can afford it. It’s not exactly cheap,” she explained. “But we exactly deserve it.”
She urged California residents once more to sign the letter, saying she believes people “want to do the right thing” but “need a push from all of us.”
Berry then pointed out the double standard in health coverage: “I can tell you this, men have that little blue pill covered by insurance. Men need to keep their penis’ up. I get it, I’m in support of that. And I beg you all to be in support of women also living their best lives in their second act, too.”
Since 2020, Berry has been in a relationship with soul musician Van Hunt, and the pair often share glimpses of their intimate connection. Back in May, they even marked Mother’s Day by spotlighting Berry’s co-created lubricant, Let’s Spin.
