Lil Durk’s Murder-for-Hire Trial Could Face Delay — Despite His Objections

Lil Durk may be eager to face his murder-for-hire trial, but another delay could keep him waiting until 2026.

According to a joint motion filed Sept. 12, federal prosecutors and lawyers for several of his co-defendants agreed the case is “so unusual and so complex” that defense teams need more time to prepare.

Durk, however, isn’t on board. “Defendant Banks does not join in the stipulation to continue the trial in this matter,” the filing states. Still, prosecutors argue he must follow the new timeline since he’s joined to the others, and call the added three-month wait “a reasonable period of delay.” If approved, his trial would now start in January.

The Chicago rapper, born Durk Banks, was indicted last fall on murder-for-hire and gun charges. Prosecutors allege he ordered Only The Family associates to target rapper Quando Rondo in Los Angeles in 2022, leading to the killing of Saviay’a Robinson, who was with Rondo at the time.

The trial was already pushed from January to October due to its massive scope—some 230 GB of digital evidence, 20,000 pages of reports, plus surveillance, photos, medical records, and witness statements. Court documents noted the case was “so unusual and so complex” that adequate preparation couldn’t be done under normal Speedy Trial Act deadlines.

Since then, things have only grown messier. In May, prosecutors accused Durk of threatening witnesses. That same month, he was hit with an added charge of stalking resulting in death. And in June, his team argued an FBI informant was feeding false information to the government in exchange for a chance at release.

Whether January sticks as the new trial date—or gets pushed even further—remains in the court’s hands.
