A$AP Rocky says he thinks Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s headline-grabbing feud was “healthy for hip-hop,” but admits he’s confused about how it ended up in the courtroom.
In a conversation with Clover Hope for ELLE, Rocky reflected on the fiery back-and-forth and explained why he chose to “fall back” as things intensified. Fans had speculated he threw a shot at Drake on “Show of Hands,” featured on Future and Metro Boomin’s We Still Don’t Trust You.
“It was healthy for hip-hop,” Rocky told ELLE. “The battle was between Kendrick and Drake, not Drake and everybody else who might have said something at that time, and that’s mainly why I fell back. I just hate the way it’s turning out with [Drake] suing and all that. What part of the game is that? What type of shit is that? That’s none of my business, I guess.”
Rocky has spoken on the two rap giants before. Back in March, during his Rolling Loud set, he debuted a track where he made it clear he wasn’t picking sides:
“I ain’t on Cole, I ain’t on Drake, I ain’t on Kendrick’s side / I choose homicide, they gon’ see a different side.”
Drake’s decision to take legal action against Universal Music Group over the fallout from Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” has been a hot topic among artists all year.
As reported in January, Drake’s claims against UMG included defamation and a violation of New York’s General Business Law. UMG denied the allegations, and by March the company had filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
