D4vd’s music is climbing the charts even as the investigation into the murder of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas unfolds.
The 20-year-old singer’s 2023 project Petals to Thorns has made its way back onto the Billboard 200, fueled by renewed attention to his breakout hit “Romantic Homicide.”
Per Chart Data, D4vd (born David Anthony Burke) hit a career milestone on Spotify Monday (Sept. 22), pulling in over 12 million streams in a single day — more than three years after “Romantic Homicide” first dropped. TMZ adds that his streaming numbers have surged by more than 60%.
The 20-year-old artist recently scrapped all upcoming U.S., UK, and European shows as the Los Angeles Police Department continues its investigation. Authorities are still awaiting toxicology and forensic results after the remains of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas were discovered in a Tesla registered to D4vd.
An LAPD spokesperson confirmed that investigators are “following up on several leads,” though no suspects or persons of interest have been named. As of now, D4vd has not been charged with any crime.
On Sunday (Sept. 21), mourners gathered in Lake Elsinore, California, for a candlelight vigil honoring Rivas. Just days earlier, police reportedly searched a rental property linked to the singer, seizing a computer and several evidence bags.
The case took a grim turn earlier this month when a “severely decomposed,” dismembered body was found stuffed inside the front trunk of D4vd’s abandoned Tesla in the Hollywood Hills, later towed to an impound lot.
The remains were identified as those of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas. Her mother revealed that Rivas had a boyfriend named David and had been missing for over a year. Adding to the intrigue, TMZ reported that both Rivas and D4vd share the same “Shhh….” tattoo on their right index finger.
Investigators are now working to determine who last drove the vehicle and are combing through surveillance footage from the main road where the car was left.
