Henry Cavill just unveiled his new look for the upcoming Highlander reboot — and fans have mixed feelings.
Set to star in the 2026 remake of the 1986 cult classic, Cavill showed off longer hair and a clean-shaven face in an Instagram post featuring his dog, Baggins.
The hairstyle, which appears to be inspired by original Highlander star Christopher Lambert, has especially split opinions among fans.
Cavill paired the photos with lines from William Ernest Henley’s 1888 poem Invictus: “Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be, For my unconquerable soul.”
The poem ends with, “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul,” which seems to nod to Cavill’s recent injury that delayed production for months. In the post, his left leg is wrapped in a bandage and propped up on a table, suggesting that’s where the setback occurred.
Reports say the injury happened during pre-production fight training as Cavill sharpened his sword skills. “If you think you’ve seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet,” he teased at 2024’s CinemaCon via The Hollywood Reporter.
Filming is now expected to kick off in early 2026. Officially titled Highlander, the reboot will see Cavill take on the role of MacLeod, an immortal 16th-century swordsman locked in a hidden war against other powerful immortals.
When Does Highlander Release?
As of now, Highlander doesn’t have an official release date. But in a May interview with Collider, director Chad Stahelski shared, “If everything works out in the next 24 hours, we’ll be shooting sometime in September. And in 2027 or 2028, you’ll be watching Highlander.”
The reboot’s cast is stacked, featuring Henry Cavill in the lead alongside Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Dave Bautista.
