Katt Williams may be closing the door on podcast appearances following the massive ripple effect of his explosive Club Shay Shay sit-down with Shannon Sharpe.
During a recent stop on Sherri, the comedian reflected on the viral interview—which has pulled in over 90 million YouTube views and even snagged a Webby Award. Since then, Williams has popped up on shows hosted by Joe Rogan, Theo Von, and Carmelo Anthony.
When Sherri Shepherd asked if appearing on podcasts was “important” to him, Williams replied, “No, ma’am, not precisely because I’m not a fan of my voice. Like, I don’t like to hear myself talk but because of the Shannon Sharpe thing, I decided that I was only gonna speak maybe six more times and let that speak for me for the duration. I was able to pick wonderful people to go and talk to—and their fan bases are our fan base, and it’s just such a great time to be an American and to enjoy freedom of speech and to be able to have that as your livelihood.”
Shepherd also brought up how people label him an “oracle” or “wizard,” and whether he ever imagined becoming a meme symbolizing truth. Williams responded, “I’m a follower of Jesus Christ, so I want everything that comes along with that even if it’s not good. Like, this is kind of what I signed up for. That particular interview was certainly a blessing that I was even able to be involved.”
The Club Shay Shay interview, which aired in January 2024, saw Williams firing shots at high-profile names including Kanye West, Kevin Hart, Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, Diddy, Jonathan Majors, and Tyler Perry.
“I came in this business saying I was going to expose,” Williams said during the viral sit-down. “When I talked about Michael Jackson, when I talked about R. Kelly, they canceled me for these things because why would you talk about another Black dude? Race is not where the line is drawn. It’s God’s side and the other side, and we don’t care nothing about the other side, period. All of these big dick deviants is all catching hell in 2024. It’s up for all of them, it don’t matter if you Diddy or whoever you is. All lies will be exposed.”
