Azealia Banks Calls Out Doja Cat for Imitating Nicki Minaj Excessively

Following the release of Doja Cat’s new album Vie, Azealia Banks is calling her out for leaning too heavily on Nicki Minaj’s style.

The ever-unfiltered rapper took to X after spotting a post comparing Doja’s delivery on “AAAHH MEN!” to Nicki’s flow on “Stupid Hoe.”

“Ok I love the girls and love Nicki but we can’t just be riding Nicki’s dick like this,” Banks wrote. “Like a teeeny bit of inspiration/borrowing is okay and respectful … but the full on Nicki cosplays have to stop because it’s almost like mocking her. Which is rude.”

“Ugh, she almost had me,” Azealia Banks admitted, making it clear she had once rooted for Doja Cat.

Just two days earlier, Banks had praised the project on her timeline, openly showing love for Doja’s music.

“Wait I really like this doja record,” she tweeted, later doubling down with, “This is her best work. I’m obsessed with this. It’s so good.”

Back in October, Azealia Banks also dished out some unsolicited career advice to Doja Cat on X, predicting her next move musically.

“Something tells me Dojacats next musical move is going to be some tiered alt-emo eartheater/twigs rip off,” she wrote. “She needs to go full adult contemporary ‘Zero 7 – Destiny’ ‘sonnique-feels so good,’ ‘Seal-kiss from a rose’ pensive bald black girl skunk anasie stadium love song vibes and really SANG.”

Doja Cat has never shied away from acknowledging Nicki Minaj as a major influence. The two linked up in 2020 for the “Say So” remix, and Doja even hoped to bring Nicki onto her track “Get Into It (Yuh).” Nicki, however, passed on the feature, saying she didn’t feel she could add much to it.

By 2023, Doja addressed the constant Nicki comparisons head-on in her single “Attention,” spitting:
“Just let me flex, bruh, just let me pop shit?/ ‘Why she think she Nicki M? She think she hot shit’ / I never gave a F, go stir the pot, bitch / I got your head all in the dirt just like a ostrich.”
