Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian are taking Ray J to court, accusing him of defamation over claims that the Kardashian family is under federal investigation for racketeering.
Filed by high-profile attorney Alex Spiro and first reported by TMZ, the suit blasts Ray J (born William Ray Norwood Jr.) for refusing to move on from his brief romance with Kim more than two decades ago.
The controversy stems from Ray J’s appearance in the Tubi doc United States vs. Sean Combs, where he suggested the Kardashians could face RICO charges. “If you told me the Kardashians was being charged for racketeering, I might believe it,” he said.
The lawsuit argues his comments were meant to “plant the seed.” But Ray J doubled down during a Sept. 24 livestream with Chrisean Rock, claiming, “The feds is coming, there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s worse than Diddy.”
Jenner and Kardashian have called the allegations “blatantly false,” saying they’ve caused “substantial and ongoing harm” to both their personal lives and professional reputations.
Ray J and Kardashian dated from 2003 to 2006 after meeting through his sister Brandy, for whom Kim once worked as a stylist. Their infamous 2007 sex tape Kim Kardashian, Superstar became a cultural flashpoint, launching Kim into superstardom and eventually a billion-dollar empire with SKIMS and KKW.
Ray J, however, has long described the tape as a curse. In a 2023 interview with Shannon Sharpe, he claimed, “everything would be different” without it, even suggesting platforms like OnlyFans might not exist. He later told Cam Newton it was “the worst thing that ever happened” to him, especially now as a father of two with estranged wife Princess Love.
Meanwhile, Kim has moved on to build her global brand and raise her four children with ex-husband Ye (formerly Kanye West).
