Gloria Velez says she has first-hand knowledge of what went down between Jay-Z and Nas during the height of their feud.
In a new interview with VladTV, the actress and former video vixen claimed that Nas once slept with one of her close friends — who happened to be dating Jay at the time — and that she personally witnessed the encounter.
According to Velez, the incident took place in 2001 after she was cast in Nas and the Bravehearts’ “Oochie Wally” music video. She said director Benny Boom asked her to bring along more women for the shoot, one of whom was Jay-Z’s then-girlfriend.
Velez also backed up claims that Nas had suggested a threesome involving her and Jay’s girlfriend, though she says she declined.
“Nas, we’re cool. There was nothing ever sexual between me and him. We were always friends. He was always respectful,” she said.
After the video wrapped, Velez said she and Jay’s girlfriend went to Nas’ hotel room, where the rapper made the proposal. “He was like, ‘Come into the room. Let’s do this, let’s do that.’ I’m like, ‘Nah, I’m good,’” she recalled.
Velez described Jay’s then-girlfriend as being around 19 or 20 at the time and “very serious” about her relationship with Jay, noting that he even gave her a position at his Rocawear clothing line. “She was from the islands… she was naive to the industry,” Velez said. “She was just getting into it. There was a lot of manipulation.”
Despite Velez warning her friend not to go through with it, she said the young woman ignored her advice. “So I watched them have sex. I didn’t participate in any of that,” she admitted. “I guess [Jay] found out or whatever the case may be. But yeah, it was crazy… Jay was really into her. He really loved her.”
Vlad pointed out that this incident only deepened the tension between Jay-Z and Nas, referencing his past interview with Nas’ ex, Carmen Bryan, who had admitted to having an affair with Jay while she was still with Nas.
“The love lives of Nas and Jay-Z are really kind of intermixed in many ways, which I think has caused a lot of that early beef,” Vlad said.
“There’s a rule. If it’s someone’s serious that you love, it’s hands off. Everybody knows,” Velez agreed. “I mean, men get feelings, too. When you love a woman, you get feelings.”
Velez also alleged that while Jay was sleeping with other women during his relationship, his girlfriend wasn’t allowed to do the same. “She couldn’t sleep with anybody… [but] he was out there, obviously,” she said. “But to sleep with your rival? You know what I mean… I told her not to do it. But it happened.”
Velez added that she’s still in touch with Jay’s ex today and that she’s in a good place. “She has children. She was married,” Velez said. “She went through a lot of shit in her life, as well.”
