Pop icon Sia is now embroiled in a heated divorce dispute after her estranged husband, Dan Bernad, requested nearly $251,000 a month in spousal support.
As reported by Billboard, the 47-year-old filed the petition in Los Angeles court on Friday, October 10, claiming he has become financially dependent on the Grammy-nominated star after putting his career as a radiation oncologist on hold.
According to court filings, Dan Bernad claims he left his medical career at Sia’s request when the two launched a ketamine clinic together in 2021. He now says the clinic has lost funding, his medical license has expired, and he currently has no source of income.
“I request that the court order Sia to pay me temporary spousal support in the sum of $250,856 per month,” Bernad wrote. “Orders are necessary at this time because I am financially dependent on Sia, the breadwinner in our marriage.”
The couple, who married in 2022, share a 17-month-old child named Somersault. Sia filed for divorce in March, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
While her net worth was redacted from the documents, Bernad argued that Sia has the means to support him at the standard of living he became used to during their marriage.
In the filing, he described their “luxurious and upper-class lifestyle,” which he estimated at over $400,000 a month — including frequent private jet trips, upscale dining, and full-time household staff.
Bernad also asked the court to require Sia to pay $500,000 toward his legal fees, saying it would “level the playing field” as the case proceeds.
He added that returning to medicine would be a lengthy process. “I will need to complete several years of training and pass several rigorous exams before I can renew my certification and practice radiation oncology again,” Bernad explained.
Sia’s representatives have not commented on the filing. The case is set to move forward in the coming weeks as the court decides whether Bernad will be granted temporary spousal support during the ongoing divorce.
