Chappell Roan didn’t hold back during her Los Angeles-area concert, taking a moment to call out ICE while showing love for the city.
Performing Friday night (Oct. 10) at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, the 27-year-old singer paused her Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things Tour set to share how much L.A. means to her — and to slam U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“L.A. is my favorite city in the world, to be honest… In my opinion, Los Angeles is the best city in the world,” Roan told the cheering crowd, noting she once lived in Altadena. “I’ve been living here for nine years, I’m originally from Missouri, and I had a really, really tough time the first five years.”
Roan went on to say, “I loved LA more than anything when I saw how the community came together in Altadena to help, and seeing the same with the Palisades. I just realized how lucky I am to live here and perform here. This city has taken care of me, and it’s only right I take care of it too. So, thank you — and, I don’t know, fuck ICE forever. Fuck ICE, yeah.”
Her words immediately sparked a loud “Fuck ICE” chant from the crowd.
The Grammy winner wrapped up her message with heartfelt gratitude, saying, “I love you, I love the queer community, thank you for being here.”
Following her remarks, Department of Homeland Security assistant secretary for public affairs Tricia McLaughlin responded to TMZ, saying, “‘Pink Pony Club’ is good. Pedophiles are bad. That’s who we’re getting off our streets. Get a grip.”
McLaughlin provided no evidence for her statement. However, TMZ pointed out a recent Cato Institute study showing that 65% of people detained by ICE between October 1, 2024, and mid-June 2025 had never been convicted of a crime.
ICE’s official website states the agency was established in 2003 after 9/11 to “promote homeland security and public safety through the criminal and civil enforcement of federal laws governing border control, customs, trade, and immigration.”
