Kim Kardashian on Co-Parenting With Kanye West: ‘It’s Been a Few Months Since We’ve Heard From Him’

Kim Kardashian is the latest guest to sit down with Alex Cooper for a deep and revealing Call Her Daddy interview, where she opened up about her current relationship with the artist formerly known as Kanye West.

Kim and Ye, who married in 2014, share four children together, including their eldest, North West. Though their divorce was finalized in 2022, the two have continued to make headlines over the years for their post-split dynamic.

When asked in Wednesday’s episode about “the state of you and Kanye’s co-parenting relationship,” Kim first deflected with a playful laugh, tossing the question back at Cooper.

“What do you think co-parenting with Kanye West is like?” she joked before giving a more serious response.

As fans know, Ye’s outspoken comments about their divorce and co-parenting situation have often kept their names in the news. But according to Kim, the reality behind their relationship is far more complicated than most people might think.

“It’s not easy but, I mean, I raise the kids full-time,” Kim said. “They live with me and I welcome a great, healthy relationship with my kids and their dad. I think he knows that. I push for it all the time. But I also protect them when it’s time for that and it goes in waves and phases and it’s a lot of work. But like I said earlier, I have the best memories and the best relationship with my dad [the late Robert Kardashian]. Even like, I love that I see Tristan [Thompson] puts [his and Khloé’s] kids to bed every night and takes them to school every day when he’s not in season. So I just welcome healthy relationships, but it’s not easy.”

When asked when Ye last saw the kids, Kim paused to think before offering an estimate—though it’s unclear exactly when the interview was filmed. Early in the conversation, she mentioned having a call that day about the NikeSKIMS collaboration, giving some clue to the timing.

“Whenever he’ll call for them and ask, it’s probably been a couple months since we’ve heard from him,” she admitted.

Alex then asked whether their children ever feel disappointed about the distance, but Kim explained that Ye’s lifestyle—particularly his frequent travel—has always been part of their family dynamic from the start.

“They always knew that he had a big life traveling before and was always on tour and all of that, and that he lives in different countries all the time and loves to live all over the place,” Kim said. “We manage it really well. They love their life and their routine and their schedule. I think my job as their mom is to make sure they stick to their routine and that they’re healthy and happy.”

What does frustrate Kim, however, is the ongoing narrative that she’s somehow preventing Ye from seeing their children. Still, she remains optimistic—thanks to advice from her mom, Kris Jenner—that one day they’ll reach the kind of peaceful co-parenting dynamic she witnessed growing up.

“But it’s more of the narrative that I think it’s all good and we’re living our life and then I just wake up and there’s all these tweets about how I’ve kidnapped the kids,” Kim said. “I’m like, it’s not a kidnapping, it’s a divorce. We can still all be in each other’s lives and have group dinners. I just grew up so different, seeing my family co-parent so great.”

Six years of Ye’s life are chronicled in the newly released documentary In Whose Name? Directed by Nico Ballesteros, the film includes multiple appearances by Kim Kardashian and even shows a particularly tense exchange between the 24-time Grammy winner and Kris Jenner. After its theatrical debut, a streaming version of the film is set to drop with an alternate cut—something Ballesteros teased to fans by saying, “the truth is coming.”
