Authorities in Los Angeles have closed the investigation into the Mr. Chow incident that left Jamie Foxx injured during his birthday celebration last year.
NBC Los Angeles reports that the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office confirmed no charges will be filed due to insufficient evidence.
The altercation occurred on December 13, 2024, while Jamie Foxx was celebrating his birthday with friends at the upscale Mr. Chow restaurant in Beverly Hills.
Police responded around 10 p.m. to reports of a possible assault with a deadly weapon, but investigators later clarified it was a physical altercation rather than a weapon-based attack.
According to Foxx’s spokesperson, the actor was hit in the mouth after someone from another table threw a glass toward him. The 57-year-old required stitches after receiving medical attention. Authorities detained a suspect, but the case never advanced.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that charges were declined, citing insufficient evidence, while Beverly Hills Police declined further comment.
What triggered the incident remains unclear. Reports from December 2024 suggested that someone in an upstairs room allegedly used a laser to project an obscene image onto Foxx’s table, sparking the confrontation.
Two days later, Foxx reassured fans on Instagram, writing, “Too blessed to be stressed,” and later adding, “The devil is a lie. Can’t win here… thank you to everybody that pray and check on me… when your light is shining bright… they try to bring you darkness… but they don’t know that you’re built for it.”
The episode came just months after Foxx shared that he had suffered a stroke from a brain bleed the previous year, a health battle he credited his family for helping him overcome.
