Brandy and Monica’s Chicago Concert Abruptly Cut Short Without Explanation

UPDATED 10/19/25, 2:42 p.m. ET: Brandy took to X to explain why her joint concert with Monica in Chicago ended abruptly on Saturday (Oct. 18), revealing she suffered from “dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint.”

“I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling okay,” she wrote. “With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production.”

Brandy went on to thank Monica and the entire tour crew for their support, adding that she had been seen by a doctor. She assured fans that she would still take the stage for their next show in Indianapolis on Sunday night.

An unexpected early ending to Brandy and Monica’s The Boy Is Mine tour stop in Chicago left fans puzzled.

Clips circulating on social media from their United Center show on Saturday captured Brandy leaving the stage mid-performance, appearing to struggle with sound issues.

“Give me one second, y’all, I gotta get my…” Brandy began before walking offstage.

However, she never returned, and according to fans, Monica finished the rest of the set solo. Unfortunately, the crowd didn’t get to hear the pair perform their iconic 1998 duet, “The Boy Is Mine.”

The Boy Is Mine tour kicked off on Oct. 16 in Cincinnati. Just two weeks before it began, Monica revealed on Instagram Live that she had been diagnosed with temporary paralysis in her right vocal cord.

“I thank God for where I am because we found out what… two weeks before the tour, that my right cord has temporary paralysis,” Monica said during the livestream, sitting beside Brandy.

Brandy responded with empathy, admitting she couldn’t imagine what Monica had been “going through vocally.”

Back in June, the duo appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where they revealed that their Grammy-winning hit “The Boy Is Mine” was inspired by an episode of The Jerry Springer Show.

“I was a huge Jerry Springer fan,” Brandy shared. “One of the topics was ‘The boy is mine,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh my God. Song idea. Let’s do this.’”

Earlier that month, the two singers told CBS Mornings that plans for a joint tour had been in the works since 1998.

“They were trying to get us to do a tour since ’98,” Brandy said.

“It just finally felt like the right time,” Monica added. “It’s a musical marriage. When you start to go on a tour, especially of this caliber, we have to talk about everything.”
