50 Cent is clearly a fan — not just of Taylor Swift’s recent shoutout on her The Life of a Showgirl album, but also of her relationship with three-time Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce.
During an interview with Extra’s Mona Kosar Abdi, the rap icon — was asked about what it meant to him personally that Taylor mentioned him on her Showgirl track “Ruin the Friendship.” In the song, Swift references an unnamed “50 Cent song” playing during a romantic moment from her past.
“It really is cool because when she makes the reference, if you listen to the song, it’s tied to what was happening in culture at that time,” 50 told Extra. “The music was everywhere back then. That’s what made it so cool to me. The shoutout itself was nice, but what she was referencing was a period when no one was more dominant in music. So that’s exciting. And I like her boyfriend too. I like the team. I like KC. I like the whole thing.”
Of course, the “boyfriend” he’s referring to is Kelce. The couple announced their engagement in August, the same month Swift dropped her Showgirl album.
When asked if he approved of the couple, 50 didn’t hold back. While he avoided naming names, his response seemed to take a jab at Kelce’s previous relationship, likely with Kayla Nicole, whom Kelce dated for about five years starting in 2017.
“I like it a lot better than the last thing he had going on,” 50 said. “It’s a lot better.”
There’s also speculation he could’ve been referring to another rumored relationship — Kelce’s brief link to reporter and TV personality Zuri Hall, who later denied the rumors.
At this point, it’s no surprise that 50 Cent loves sharing his opinions on anything happening in pop culture. Just this week, he weighed in on Nicki Minaj’s ongoing trolling of Jay-Z, telling fans, “I like when she get mad.” Before that, he also had something to say about Nicki’s feud with Cardi B.
