During a recent Instagram Live session, Cardi B called out people struggling to pay their bills who still voted for Donald Trump, believing he would improve the economy.
Around the 3:50 mark of the stream, the rapper expressed her frustration over reactions to the Trump administration’s decision to cut funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps millions of Americans afford food.
Cardi explained that she initially didn’t plan to vote last year because she felt the Democrats were “funding wars,” but after speaking directly with Kamala Harris, she changed her mind. Although she admitted she doesn’t agree with everything the Democrats stand for, she said she realized that the Republican alternative would be far worse.
“Now look, right… Donald Trump was never for y’all poor motherfuckers,” Cardi said. “Donald Trump was never for the poor people. For the white poors, for the Black poors, for the Spanish poors, for the Asians, for the Indians… He don’t give a fuck about none of y’all motherfuckers. When I talk about poor, I’m not only talking about poor people that’s under [the] poverty [line]. To him, even millionaires are poor! He don’t give a fuck about the millionaires like me, neither!”
She went on to compare Trump’s political tactics to those of dictators throughout history, who often “find an excuse to blame people for a country’s downfall.” Using Hitler’s targeting of the Jewish community as an example, Cardi said, “Now, Donald Trump was blaming the immigrants for America’s downfall. Like, I do understand if a country wants to enforce more strict immigration laws. I understand that. However, he was using that as an excuse for the issues that we have in this country, in this economy. Now, how many fucking immigrants has he deported? He has deported so many people. So, now the immigrants are deported, who are we blaming for the fact that we are practically going into a recession? We don’t even have food stamps.”
Cardi questioned the idea that immigrants were draining government resources, pointing out that even after mass deportations, SNAP benefits are still being cut. “[Trump] don’t fucking like y’all,” she said. “You’re poor, he don’t like you. If you poor, he don’t fucking like you. He ain’t for you. … The economy is fucked up in all types of way. When was the last time y’all seen celebrities happy and shit? Everybody’s going through it, bitch. These companies they’re not giving money like they used to be.”
She wrapped up by highlighting what she sees as a sign of the financial crisis: the drop in sex workers’ rates. “When have you seen a bitch pop out with a Birkin?” she asked. “Even the prostitutes going through it! … ’Cause the fucking economy is bad!”
