Darius McCrary is once again behind bars.
TMZ reports that the 49-year-old actor was booked into a Michigan jail on Wednesday night, just weeks after being arrested near the U.S.-Mexico border.
Best known for playing Eddie Winslow on the beloved ’90s sitcom Family Matters, McCrary was hit with a felony arrest warrant back in August after failing to appear in a Michigan court. The case stems from nearly $75,000 in unpaid child support.
Over a month after the warrant was issued, McCrary was taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol and booked into a San Diego jail, where he remained until his extradition to Oakland County, Michigan.
According to TMZ, McCrary’s bond has been set at $18,968.32, though his release date has not yet been determined.
Following his fugitive arrest, McCrary’s representative, Ann Barlow, defended him, claiming he wasn’t a flight risk and was actually in Mexico for charitable work.
“Darius was picked up at the Border of Mexico because he was partnering with a real estate developer that is building homes for the homeless in Tijuana, Mexico,” Barlow told Fox 13. “Darius was doing a GOOD DEED when he discovered he had a felony warrant at the Border of Mexico for a missed court appearance.
“The missed court appearance was for an ongoing child support dispute, whereas Oakland County mailed the notice to appear to Darius’ PO BOX giving him only 3 days to appear in Michigan Court,” she continued. “Unfortunately, Darius had COVID and didn’t check his PO Box until the day after his court date.”
McCrary now faces four felony counts of unpaid child support and could face up to four years in prison if convicted.
