Snoop Dogg pulled out all the stops for his wife Shante Broadus’ 50th birthday, surprising her with three symbolic rings — each representing a special chapter in their love story.
In footage from the celebration, Snoop stood beside Shante, his partner of more than three decades, as he explained the meaning behind the gifts. With a microphone in hand, the rapper shared that each ring marked a milestone in their lifelong bond.
“The first ring is for when you became my girlfriend,” said Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. “And that meant the world to me, because, in case people don’t know, you’re the only girlfriend I ever had in my whole life.”
The two first met as teenagers at Long Beach Polytechnic High School in California. According to People, they attended school dances together — including prom — before graduating in 1989. Today, Shante is the founder of Boss Lady Entertainment, a music management and production company.
“The second ring represents when you became my wife,” Snoop continued during his heartfelt speech. “That was the joy of my life because we had two babies—then we eventually made another one, a beautiful daughter. We renewed our vows and did all the things we was supposed to do to stay down as a family.”
Snoop and Shante tied the knot on June 14, 1997, and share three children: sons Cordé (born in 1994) and Cordell (born in 1997), and daughter Cori (born in 1999). They’re also proud grandparents to several grandchildren.
But it was the meaning behind the third ring that brought the emotion full circle.
“The last ring right here is to represent the love of my life,” Snoop said. “So, boss lady, as you enter the fifth floor, enjoy it, live it up, have fun, spend money, and be a great wife, great mother, great grandmother, great daughter, great sister, great auntie, and a great friend. Grow into the person that your grandmother was.”
Last September, Snoop reflected on the secret to his lasting marriage during an interview with People.
“Find out what your companion loves the most and concentrate on doing it the most,” he said. “That’s real love.”
