6ix9ine is hoping to avoid jail time by requesting six months of house arrest after admitting to assault and drug possession charges.
According to court documents, the rapper’s attorney, Lance Lazzaro, asked Judge Paul Engelmayer to consider house arrest, arguing that incarceration would be too dangerous for his client given his fame and history of cooperating with authorities.
“Due to Mr. Hernandez’s classification, he always serves his jail time segregated and fully isolated from other inmates,” Lazzaro wrote. “As a result, Mr. Hernandez is given extremely limited social interaction with other inmates and very little time outside to get fresh air and exercise.”
Lazzaro added that the probation department has recommended three months in jail instead, though prosecutors have not yet offered their own sentencing recommendation.
This plea follows 6ix9ine’s admission to violating his supervised release by possessing cocaine and MDMA, and for assaulting a man at a Florida mall who allegedly called him a “snitch.” In his letter, Lazzaro acknowledged 6ix9ine’s involvement in the altercation but emphasized that the victim was “not seriously injured.”
The incident occurred as 6ix9ine awaited sentencing for a previous supervised release violation after police found drugs during a March raid at his home. He has remained under house arrest since late September, after admitting to the assault.
Judge Engelmayer is set to determine 6ix9ine’s fate on November 20.
