Hours after alternative rapper POORSTACY died by suicide, the mother of his child, Nicole Grikstas, was taken into custody on child neglect charges.
TMZ reports that Boca Raton police believe the couple had been using drugs in front of their young child. The toddler was in the motel room with Grikstas and POORSTACY—real name Carlito Milfort—when the 26-year-old artist fatally shot himself. Grikstas was arrested on Saturday (Nov. 29) for child neglect without causing great bodily harm.
According to the affidavit, the couple had checked into a motel with their child a week before Milfort’s death. While there, they allegedly engaged in heavy drug use, including cocaine, Xanax, and MDMA, all in the child’s presence.
Around 11 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 28), Grikstas and Milfort returned to the room and continued using cocaine. By 3 a.m., Grikstas had taken MDMA as well, and throughout the night the pair argued, accusing each other of cheating. At one point, Milfort allegedly accused her of hiding his drugs. She denied it, but says he searched her vaginal and anal areas, allegedly assaulting her in the process.
Grikstas told authorities that for about an hour afterward, Milfort threatened to shoot her, pointing the gun at both himself and her before ultimately pulling the trigger. After interviewing her, police concluded that neither parent protected the child from their drug use, nor did they attempt to remove him from the room at any point.
Milfort had previous run-ins with the law. In 2023, he was charged with battery and child neglect for allegedly assaulting a woman and a one-month-old baby, as well as throwing a cage containing a hamster at the woman. He was released on a $6,000 bond, and the charges were later dropped.
