Trick Daddy is keeping it brutally real — and this time, his smoke is aimed at the thriller Sinners.
In a resurfaced cooking interview with comedian Mike Epps from August, the Miami rap icon didn’t mince words when asked about the buzzy film that’s been sparking nonstop conversation online. According to Trick, the movie wasn’t just confusing — it completely lost him.
“Yeah, I seen that confusing ass shit,” he told Epps as they cooked together. “I don’t want no movie that I got to sit there and try to figure it out.”
He went on to compare the film’s layered, symbolic storytelling to rappers who cram too many metaphors into their lyrics.
“That’s just like rappers with metaphors, fuck the metaphor,” Trick said. “Give me the hard lyrics, give me the facts, give me a good track, get a bad bitch in your video and that’s all I need. I don’t need all that. I’m telling you, I don’t need all that.”
Sinners marks one of Ryan Coogler’s most daring creative leaps to date. Released in 2025, the supernatural, historically grounded horror film takes place in 1932 Mississippi. Michael B. Jordan leads the story as twin brothers, Smoke and Stack, who return home to launch a juke joint meant to honor Black culture, music, and resilience during a time defined by violence and oppression. But their homecoming quickly pulls them into a battle with a clan of vampires representing racism, exploitation, generational trauma, and the fight for Black identity in the Jim Crow South.
Coogler fuses period drama with horror, musical touches, and surreal folklore, using vampire lore as a vehicle for deeper cultural commentary. Its nonlinear storytelling, heavy symbolism, and layered themes have already fueled intense debates among viewers who see Sinners as one of his most ambitious works yet. Still, Trick Daddy made it clear that all that complexity just didn’t land with him.
