After less than a year of marriage, the honeymoon phase between estranged couple LiAngelo “GELO” Ball and Rashida Nicole has officially faded — and Ball admits he wasn’t feeling it long before that, even on the drive to the courthouse.
Shortly after Nicole welcomed their first child with the “Tweaker” artist, Ball opened up about their separation on the Tuesday (Dec. 9) episode of the Ball in the Family podcast.
Around the 26-minute mark, Ball reflected on his sudden split from TV personality Nikki Mudarris — also known as Miss Nikki Baby — which happened soon after the former couple welcomed their second child together.
Within weeks of that February breakup, Ball went on to marry Nicole.
“I don’t know what I was doing for real,” Ball confessed. He continued, “I had like a week where I tapped in. Like, ‘What am I doing’ type shit.”
Ball went on to explain that his split from Mudarris stemmed from disagreements over where they’d live and where their kids would go to school.
“If I could redo it, I would have whooped my own ass for real. I would have stayed there,” he said, hinting that he regrets ending things with the former Love and Hip Hop: Hollywood star.
“I told her that, though. Nikki called me and I told her straight up like, ‘I was tweaking.’ I ain’t got no excuse for that shit or nothing,” he continued.
Ball admitted he’s often “in his own world” and didn’t seek guidance before ending his previous relationship.
“That’s why I say I had to tap in,” he said. “When I really started thinking about what I’m about, I’m like, ‘This shit trash.'”
He went on to say his marriage to Nicole happened way too fast and caught him off guard, describing those days as “two terrible ass weeks.”
“I was fine,” Ball said. “Shit started going south like that. … I did make some dumb ass decisions, I feel like she was like, ‘I pray you die every day.’ Like, she might have been on some ill shit, n***a. … I couldn’t think for real.”
The rapper and basketball player added that he was simply “going through the motions” with Nicole and claimed she pushed for the marriage.
“She drove me [to the courthouse], n***a. I’m out there about to cry in the whip,” Ball recalled. “I felt disconnected type shit. I’m telling her like, ‘I don’t want to get married, n***a. I don’t want to do none of this shit.’ But then I was like, ‘I’m doing it though, n***a.’ And I did not understand.”
He added that the same day he broke down over marrying Nicole was the day he told her to “slide” out of his home.
“To be honest, I don’t like her ass,” he said elsewhere. “She was lying and shit. A whole bunch of bad shit, n***a. I had to just go and leave.”
Following the birth of their child, Nicole took shots at Ball on Instagram, claiming he was absent throughout the pregnancy and still hadn’t met their newborn.
“Poor baby been on this earth for 6 days still ain’t seen or heard from her dad,” Nicole wrote on her Instagram Story on Monday (Dec. 8).
