Tamar Braxton Claims Birdman Was Very Intentional About His Relationship With Sister Toni Braxton

R&B singer and reality TV personality Tamar Braxton believes Birdman is a great match for her eldest sister, Toni Braxton.

The Braxtons star appeared on The Breakfast Club on Wednesday (December 17), where she reflected on how her sister’s relationship with the Cash Money Records co-founder first began. The couple tied the knot last August, and despite brief divorce rumors earlier this year, they remain happily together.

During the interview, around the 20-minute mark, Tamar revealed that Birdman “pursued” the “Breathe Again” singer through her. Toni finalized her divorce from her first husband, musician Keri Lewis, in 2013 after 12 years of marriage. The former couple share two sons, Denim, 24, and Diesel, 22.

“At first, he was like, ‘Yeah, hi.’ I was like, ‘She’s married. Leave my sister alone.’ And then when she got a divorce, he was very intentional about her,” Tamar said.

The singer and actress also made it clear that she never dated Birdman, explaining that it was actually one of her “homegirls” who previously had a relationship with the rapper and music executive. She added that at the time, she was in discussions about possibly signing with Cash Money Records.

Addressing online backlash over her public support for her brother-in-law, Tamar described the criticism as “cyberbullying.”

“Why wouldn’t you support your family? That’s my brother-in-law. That’s my family,” Tamar said. “We spend holidays together. We have intimate conversations about my family. So why wouldn’t I support him, and why would I not brush him off or wipe him down? … As I should, and I’d do it again.”

During yesterday’s episode of the talk show Sherri, Tamar shut down claims that she crossed any boundaries with Birdman, stressing that their relationship has always remained “platonic.”
