Tamar Braxton Shuts Down Rumors She Dated Birdman, Says She’s the One Who Introduced Him to Toni

Tamar Braxton is shutting down talk that she ever had a romantic relationship with her brother-in-law, Birdman. The singer and reality star says not only did nothing ever happen between them — she’s actually the one who introduced the music mogul to his now-wife, Toni Braxton.

Tamar, who appears on the family reality series The Braxtons, sat down on Sherri on Wednesday (Dec. 16) and addressed the rumor head-on, making it clear she was never involved with the Cash Money co-founder in that way.

“Brian and I were friends first,” Tamar said, using Birdman’s legal name. “And like real, platonic friends. He was actually dating one of my friends a long time ago. So when they broke up, Brian and I became really good friends because him and Slim [Williams] wanted to sign me to Cash Money Records.”

Tamar went on to explain that Birdman showed interest in Toni back when she was still married to musician Keri Lewis — a marriage that ended in 2013 after twelve years. “And so when Toni got a divorce, [Birdman] was serious about her and made his way in,” she said.

Tamar also shared that she was hurt by an accusation her sister Tawanda once made, claiming she’d had an affair with another one of Toni’s exes — someone Tamar says was “abusive” toward her. She emphasized that Birdman has always felt like family, calling him a “brother” who’s so close he could practically be “blood.”

“When I was wiping the sweat off of him, first of all, it was water,” Tamar joked. “He was just like, ‘Wipe me down.’ I was in it.”

Toni Braxton, who married Birdman last August after almost a decade of dating, recently called her husband her “bestie” in an interview with People.

“I’m a hopeless romantic,” Braxton told the outlet. “I’ve learned that romance is never over. It’s ageless.”
