Timothée Chalamet Jokes About Being ‘2 Percent Jamaican,’ Says He Has a Great-Grandparent From Kingston

Timothée Chalamet revealed he may have a bit of Caribbean heritage.

The Marty Supreme star shared the detail while appearing at Druski’s Coulda Been Records auditions in Brooklyn. When a woman named Che stepped up in front of Chalamet and Druski, the comedian pointed to the actor and said, “You know, he’s two percent Jamaican,” around the 31:30 mark.

Chalamet went along with the joke, responding, “I’m two percent, yeah.”

At that point, Druski doubled down, continuing to tell the woman that Timmy is Jamaican. “Why you think he say Chalamet?” Druski joked. “Girl, that’s fucking Jamaican.”

“Exactly,” Chalamet replied, as the woman appeared to buy into it. “I had a great-grandparent from Kingston,” he added, while both the woman and Druski began mimicking a Jamaican accent.

Chalamet leaned further into the moment, asking, “What’s that song? ‘Bend Over?’” before reciting some of the lyrics. The track he seemed to be referencing is “Bend Over” by RDX, a reggae duo from Kingston, Jamaica.

For months, Druski has been traveling city to city for Season 2 of Coulda Been Records auditions, giving locals a chance to rap, sing, crack jokes, and show off other talents in hopes of impressing the comedian. Chalamet’s appearance seemed to double as promotion for Marty Supreme, which hits theaters on Christmas Day.

Chalamet hosted the “pre-auditions,” standing between two ping-pong figures while rocking a brown, orange, and white version of his Marty Supreme jacket.

Earlier this week, Chalamet also hosted an underground table tennis tournament put together by Airbnb.
