Believe it or not, the new year is already nearly a week in, which means ASAP Rocky’s long-awaited Don’t Be Dumb is finally right around the corner.
As the Testing follow-up gears up for its Jan. 16 release, Rocky has tapped Stranger Things star and longtime Tim Burton collaborator Winona Ryder to headline the newly released visual for “Punk Rocky.”
Co-directed by ASAP Rocky alongside Folkert Verdoorn and Simon Becks, the video brings five of the rapper’s six Don’t Be Dumb alter egos to life. Rocky appears as Gr1m, while Tommy Revenge plays Rugahand, Thoto embodies Babushka Boi, and the Williams twins take on the roles of Shirthead and Dummy. The visual also features appearances from Danny Elfman, Thundercat, and ASAP Nast, adding to its stacked cast.
Ryder’s involvement fits perfectly with the broader creative vision surrounding Rocky’s latest project, which features cover art designed by Burton and heavy contributions from Oingo Boingo founder Danny Elfman throughout the album. The Oscar-nominated composer is known for scoring several Burton films, including — but not limited to — Ryder-led classics like Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands.
