Fetty Wap Reveals 50 Cent Had His Back in Prison, Sent Money: ‘He Didn’t Shy Off’

Fetty Wap is shedding light on the behind-the-scenes support he received while serving his prison sentence, revealing that 50 Cent regularly checked in on him, offered advice, and even sent him money during that time.

During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, Fetty spoke about how surprising — and impactful — 50’s support was during one of the hardest chapters of his life.

“50, so I don’t even know where to start with him. 50 did a lot for me,” Fetty shared. “From day one, it was like he reached out like, ‘Yo, whatever you need, just holla at me.’”

He admitted that at first, he didn’t quite know how to react, especially when financial help was involved.

“And then [he asked], ‘Where’s this money going?’ I was like, ‘What?’ I ain’t used to that. I’m used to, it’s always the other way around,” he said.

Fetty emphasized that 50 never made the support feel transactional or forced. Instead, he remained consistent, checking in and staying present throughout his incarceration.

“It was nothing. Like, hey, whatever I needed, he was right there. He answered the phone. He didn’t shy off,” Fetty said. “All the way down to the time I’m about to come home. He said, ‘Yo, how you getting home?’ and stuff like that.”

Fetty went on to say that 50 Cent ended up being his strongest support system while he was incarcerated, both financially and mentally.

“If anything, like, as far as financial and mental help, he was probably there the biggest,” he said.

Beyond encouragement, Fetty shared that 50 also kept it real with him, offering blunt advice about his career and the realities of the music industry — delivered in true 50 Cent fashion.

“‘Hey, yo. Yo, stop fucking up,’” Fetty recalled 50 telling him while laughing. “‘Should have never stopped making music. Like, you should have kept going hard.’ That’s 50. He gonna say what he want to say. He ain’t got no filter.”

Now that he’s home, Fetty says he’s moving with purpose and focusing on rebuilding. In a statement shared with The Breakfast Club’s Loren LoRosa, the 34-year-old expressed gratitude to those who stood by him during his time behind bars.

“I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support — it truly means everything to me,” he said. “I’m committed to moving forward with purpose and making a meaningful impact where it matters most.”

Fetty’s prison sentence stemmed from a federal indictment handed down in October 2021, which accused him and others of being part of a drug trafficking operation spanning multiple states. Prosecutors alleged that between June 2019 and June 2020, the group distributed large amounts of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine.

After initially being released on bond, Fetty was taken back into custody in August 2022 for violating the terms of his release. He later pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine and was sentenced in May 2023 to six years in prison. While he was originally expected to remain locked up until 2029, his release date was later moved up several times.
