Bad Bunny Honors Late Chilean Protest Icon Víctor Jara During Chile Concert

Bad Bunny honored late Chilean protest singer Víctor Jara during the Chile stop of his world tour.

During the show, one of Bad Bunny’s band members performed an instrumental rendition of Jara’s iconic protest song “El Derecho de Viver in Paz (The Right To Live in Peace)” on a mandolin, with the audience joining in to sing along.

The moment carried even more weight because the performance took place in a stadium that once served as a detention and torture center under the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. Jara was killed in 1973 during Pinochet’s rule.

Bunny also appeared to have a brief moment of frustration during the show. According to a fan, he was interrupted by the crowd while trying to perform “Cafe Con Ron.” In a video shared by the fan, she claimed that concertgoers were chanting for a different song, prompting him to walk backstage and let them sing instead, seemingly annoyed by the interruption.

Bunny is also preparing for a major milestone: performing at Super Bowl LX. Back in October, he cracked a few jokes about how thrilled MAGA supporters seemed to be about him headlining the Halftime Show. “I’m very happy, and I think everyone is happy about it, even Fox News,” he joked during his SNL monologue.

“I’m very excited to be doing the Super Bowl, and I know people all around the world are very happy,” Bunny added, before switching to Spanish to deliver a longer message directly to his fans.

He ended the moment with a playful challenge for viewers getting ready for the big game. “If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn,” he said.

Following the NFL’s official announcement confirming his Super Bowl performance, Bad Bunny shared a statement expressing just how much the moment means to him.

“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself,” he said. “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”
