Federal Agents Kill Another Person in Minnesota as ICE Protests Continue

A 37-year-old man from the U.S. was fatally shot by federal agents in Minneapolis, coming just weeks after another agent shot and killed Renée Good.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said the shooting happened around 9 a.m. local time while agents were carrying out an immigration enforcement operation. According to DHS, a man approached the agents carrying a 9-millimeter handgun along with two magazines of ammunition.

DHS claimed that when agents tried to disarm him, the man “violently resisted,” leading one agent to fire what the department described as “defensive shots.” He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Footage of the encounter shows DHS personnel surrounding the man as a struggle unfolds, before one officer steps back and fires multiple shots at him while he is on the ground.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said the man had no history of violent criminal offenses and was a lawful gun owner with a valid permit to carry.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz addressed the incident in a statement.

“Minnesota has had it. This is sickening,” Walz said. “The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.”

The shooting came a day after a citywide general strike held in opposition to ICE activity in the area. That protest followed the fatal shooting of Renée Good on Jan. 7, when a federal agent claimed she was trying to run him over. Later reviews of video evidence raised questions about that account.

“The visual evidence shows no indication that the agent who fired the shots, Jonathan Ross, had been run over,” a New York Times investigation found.

DHS later stated on social media that Good had been “impeding a law enforcement operation” before the incident occurred.
