Margot Robbie Describes Jacob Elordi’s On-Set Moment During Wuthering Heights Scene as “Romantic”

Margot Robbie is sharing details about a touching behind-the-scenes moment with her co-star Jacob Elordi that ultimately influenced one of the most romantic scenes in the upcoming film Wuthering Heights.

While speaking with Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans alongside fellow cast member Alison Oliver, Robbie explained that a standout scene viewers will see wasn’t part of the original script and instead unfolded naturally during rehearsal. She said the crew was only testing the rain machine to check if the water level looked right on camera.

“The rain machine is on ’cause we were checking if the rain machine level was right. And I was going like that because the rain had started,” she said, describing how she lifted her hands to shield her forehead as the rain began to fall.

According to Robbie, Elordi reacted instinctively when he noticed.

“Of course, when you’re acting with Jacob, you’re like, looking up like this all the time,” she joked about her 6’5” co-star before adding, “So, I went like that, and he just automatically went to cover my face because he’s a gentleman.”

Robbie went on to say that the gesture came naturally to Elordi.

“That’s just second nature to him — he automatically went like that,” she explained.

The moment immediately caught the eye of director Emerald Fennell, who was watching the rehearsal play out. Robbie said both she and Fennell stopped everything the second they noticed it.

“Honestly, both Emerald and I just went, ‘Okay, stop,’” she recalled. “And he didn’t even realize he had done anything chivalrous or romantic.”

What started as a routine technical check quickly turned into a key element of the scene.

“We were just like, ‘That was the most romantic thing I’ve experienced and seen, so do that for the whole scene,’” Robbie said. “And then we made that the scene.”

The new Wuthering Heights adaptation is already generating buzz, with Fennell at the helm and a cast that mixes established stars with rising talent. The film hits theaters on February 13.
