Serena Williams is putting her slimmer figure on display after opening up about using a GLP-1 medication to support her health. On Sunday, Feb. 1, the 44-year-old tennis legend took to Instagram to post photos of herself rocking a chic skirt suit paired with a fitted white tank top.
“That good-good… day,” Williams wrote alongside the post, which featured three stylish snaps.
The post followed Williams recently sharing a GLP-1 ad, where the mom of two revealed she has lost 34 pounds over the past year. She also said the medication has led to additional health improvements she wanted to openly share with her 18 million Instagram followers.
“I never thought I’d be sharing this on camera,” Williams said in an Instagram video before showing her lab results. “Some of my health stats are even better than when I was playing tennis.”
“Since being on GLP-1, my lifetime risk of cardiovascular disease has decreased by 19%,” she added, noting that her total cholesterol levels have improved by 30%.
Williams went into more detail about those changes during a recent interview with People magazine.
“I feel healthier. I feel lighter. I feel great. It’s a really good feeling. Something I’ve seen improvement on recently were just my numbers … huge improvements,” she said in the interview, which was published on January 28.
Despite the debate surrounding her decision to use a GLP-1 medication, Williams told People she wants to help remove the stigma attached to it.
“I just wanted to naturally share my story and tell everyone that it’s not a shortcut. It had such a stigma and I wanted to be a part of breaking that down,” she explained, adding, “I was at the fair the other day and this random guy came up to me and was like, ‘I started GLP-1s because of you.’ And so I love the impact it’s making, not only with women but with men as well.”
