Halle Berry has officially confirmed that she’s engaged to her longtime partner, musician Van Hunt.
The Oscar-winning actress shared the news during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she addressed ongoing speculation surrounding their relationship status.
Reports had circulated claiming Berry declined a marriage proposal from Hunt, but she set the record straight.
“Well, there’s some confusion that Van asked to marry me, and I said no. No, that’s not the case,” Berry explained. “I did not say no. We just don’t have a date.”
She went on to confirm that they are indeed engaged and made it clear there was no doubt when Hunt popped the question.
“But, of course, I said I would marry him,” she added. “He did put a little ring on it.”
During the appearance, Berry briefly showed off her engagement ring, which features a large, round center stone. She didn’t share details about when or how the proposal happened.
Berry, 59, and Hunt, 55, have been together since April 2020. Over the years, both have been open about their belief that marriage isn’t necessary to validate their relationship. In a previous interview, Hunt confirmed that he had proposed while noting they weren’t in a rush.
“We don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way,” Berry previously said. “We don’t.”
Berry has been married three times, most recently to French actor Olivier Martinez. Their divorce was finalized in 2016, and they share a 12-year-old son, Maceo. She is also mom to a 17-year-old daughter, Nahla, from her past relationship with Canadian model Gabriel Aubry.
The engagement news comes as Berry continues promoting her upcoming film, Crime 101, a crime thriller co-starring Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo. The movie is set to hit theaters on February 13.
Alongside the personal milestone, Berry has remained open about her career journey. In a recent interview, she reflected on her historic Oscar win for Monster’s Ball and spoke candidly about the challenges of being a Black woman in Hollywood.
She noted that the industry didn’t transform overnight after her Best Actress win, adding that racial barriers and limitations still remained even after that defining moment.
