Kim Kardashian Says She’s ‘Proud’ of Daughter North West’s Music Path: ‘She Loves Producing Music’

Kim Kardashian is making it clear she’s proud of her eldest daughter, North West, in a new digital issue.

As the 12-year-old gears up for her debut album, The Elementary School Dropout, alongside her father and executive producer Kanye West, Kardashian spoke enthusiastically about North’s musical development in a conversation with the editor-in-chief Aria Hughes.

North, who see’s massive success on her joint TikTok account with her mom—boasting 20.8 million followers—recently hit the stage with Kanye in Mexico City. The appearance marked Kanye’s first concert there since his 2008 Glow in the Dark Tour. During the show, North premiered her new song “Piercing On My Hand” and also performed the ¥$ tracks “Talking” and “Bomb.”

“She loves producing music and wanted to share it with the world and isn’t afraid if people will like it,” the SKIMS founder told Hughes.

“She’s like her dad in that if she likes it, that’s enough for her, and she doesn’t really care about outside opinions,” Kardashian added. “I’m proud of her for that, for putting music out, enjoying the process, and doing it her own way.”

Kardashian previously dipped her toe into music with her 2011 track “Jam (Turn It Up).” More recently, in 2024, she reimagined the holiday classic “Santa Baby,” a song originally made famous by the late actor and singer Eartha Kitt.

During a 2023 interview with i-D, North—who was 10 at the time—revealed that her dad’s breakout hit “Through the Wire” is her favorite song of his. She also opened up about her ambitions beyond rapping.

“A basketball player, a rapper, um… Well, when I was seven, I wanted to be a boxer. But now I don’t want to be a boxer. I’m going to do art on the side,” she said. “When I’m, like, 13, I want to walk dogs, to make money to buy art supplies, because everything around here is so expensive. So a rapper, a basketball player, and I’m going to make artwork that I sell. Also, one day I want to own Yeezy and SKIMS, and I want to be a business owner.”
