Rapper Tone Loc was reportedly hospitalized on Valentine’s Day in Georgia after experiencing a medical emergency.
The update came from the men’s Mardi Gras society Krewe of Kolosse, which revealed in a Facebook post that the artist — widely recognized for his 1989 hit “Funky Cold Medina” — fell ill while traveling to appear as Grand Marshal at a parade in Dothan, Alabama.
“While traveling from Los Angeles, California to Dothan early this morning, the artist experienced a medical emergency and was admitted to a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia,” the organization stated. “Out of respect for his privacy, no further details are available at this time.”
According to TMZ, a representative for Tone Loc later confirmed that he is doing well and was on his way back to Los Angeles. The rep did not confirm or deny the specific medical situation referenced in the Krewe of Kolosse’s announcement.
Tone Loc has faced several health scares in the past. He collapsed during performances in 2012, 2013, and 2016 — incidents that drew widespread attention. During a 2012 show at the Laugh Factory, TMZ reported that he fell to the ground and was “gasping to breath,” according to witnesses.
Following a DUI arrest in 2011, Tone Loc reportedly told authorities that he sometimes experiences seizures.
