Fetty Wap says he’s turning over a new leaf after prison, sharing that he earned his GED and completed HVAC training as part of his fresh start.
While appearing on The Tamron Hall Show, the rapper opened up about how furthering his education and picking up a trade became key steps in rebuilding his life with more stability.
“I got my GED. I took a few HVAC courses. Oh, yeah, I do a few things,” Fetty said.
He explained that his interest in HVAC came from being around people who were running legitimate businesses and earning solid money, which changed how he viewed life outside of music.
“You meet a lot of people that … they had legitimate businesses and making good amount of money,” he shared. “So I’m like, well, he making, like, rapper money. I’ma try that out.”
Tamron Hall noted that many artists in his situation would be laser-focused on jumping straight back into music, but Fetty Wap made it clear his mindset isn’t the same anymore.
When asked whether he expected his career to pick up exactly where it left off before prison, Fetty answered honestly: “No.”
The 34-year-old was released last month after serving time on federal drug charges tied to his guilty plea in a cocaine distribution conspiracy case. He had been sentenced in 2023 and was initially expected to remain behind bars longer.
Since coming home, Fetty has been vocal about growth and purpose. He’s publicly thanked his fans, family, and supporters for sticking with him, and shared plans to pour energy into community efforts focused on helping young people gain access to education and real opportunities.
