Megan Thee Stallion is headed to Broadway.
On Thursday (Feb. 26), the Houston rapper revealed she’ll be stepping into the role of Zidler in Moulin Rouge! The Musical from March 24 through May 17 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, according to Playbill.
The character of Zidler — originally brought to life on Broadway by Tony winner Danny Burstein — has traditionally been portrayed by men. With this casting, Megan is said to become the first woman to take on the role in any Moulin Rouge! production around the world.
“Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is an absolute honor,” Megan said in a press statement. “I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively and theatre is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace. Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation, and storytelling, but I’m up for the challenge and can’t wait for the Hotties to see a new side of me.”
Producer Carmen Pavlovic also shared her excitement about the casting. “Welcoming Megan Thee Stallion into the Moulin Rouge! The Musical community is a thrilling moment for us,” she said. “Megan is a true global superstar. She is one of the most influential artists of her generation and her impact on music and culture is undeniable.”
With the Tony-winning production set to wrap its seven-year Broadway run on July 26, 2026, Pavlovic explained that Megan’s addition is part of a series of celebrations marking the show’s run.
“We want our show to go out with a spectacular bang, and Megan is the force of nature to lead us there,” Pavlovic added. “And yes, there will be a hint of music from her own iconic catalogue. It’s an unmissable moment for both Megan’s fans and ours.”
Megan will step into the role after Bob the Drag Queen, who is set to finish his run as Zidler on March 22.
Beyond Broadway, Moulin Rouge! continues to tour across North America and is also playing in London’s West End, Germany, Korea, and other international markets.
